Precautions for the First Trimester of Pregnancy

From the moment of getting the good news about the arrival of the new guest, parents start to panic regarding the safety of the new one. It is pretty natural and it is always good to take precautions beforehand than to take any risk. The first three months of pregnancy is the most crucial and risky time according to general consideration. That is why; there are many precautionary measures that the doctors advise during this time.

Here is a list of precautions that the moms should take during the first trimester-

Drink Water

Staying hydrated dilutes almost most of the problems anyway. The intake of fluid is extremely necessary during the first three months of pregnancy. There is a sudden rise in the volume of the blood during this time as the baby needs more and more oxygen, which gets carried by the blood. Apart from water, one might consider drinking lots of juices as well.

Prenatal Vitamins

It is highly important to follow all the advice of the doctor during this time. Supplements like folic acid, irons are necessary for the baby. These vitamins help to prevent any defects the baby might have.

Bye Bye Smoking and Alcohol

Both cigarettes and alcohol are dangerously harmful to both the baby and mommy. Consuming alcohol and continuing smoking might lead to some dangerous results for the baby and the mother. That is why; it is strongly advised to leave all that behind from the moment someone is pregnant.

Say no to Sauna Baths

Long exposure to heat is extremely harmful to the baby growing inside the mommy’s body. The baby might get NTDs or generally known as neural tube defects. Sauna baths or hot tubs cause higher temperatures that the body experiences for a long time. This is highly risky for the baby. That is why; during the first trimester the mommy should strongly avoid these.

Stay Away from Strong Smell

During pregnancy, the hormone levels inside the body change rapidly. Mommy might find some things unbearable. For some, the sense of smell gets heightened. Strong smells in those cases might lead towards extreme cases of morning sickness. The mommies might feel nausea as well. This is not good for the baby. So, as a precaution, it is always best to stay away from such smells.

Limited Contact with Pets

Pets are although innocent they might be carriers of many harmful things- starting from parasites to bacteria to other infections. So people having pets at home should at least limit their proximity to them. The poops of cats and dogs might also cause infections in the mommy. So limit the contact.

Test for STDs

It is highly important for mommies to get tested for STDs and HIV during the first trimester. This gives the doctor the chance of dealing with it and ensures so that the baby does not get affected.

When it comes to the baby, the mommy cannot do enough to ensure it. That is why; these tips might help as precautionary measures to ensure the safety of both the mommy and the baby.
